Dry bulk traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has significantly declined, with West-to-East transits down 34 per cent and East-to-West transits down 26 per cent compared to 2025. AXS Dry data indicates that the average transits per day have fallen below pre-war levels, reflecting ongoing security concerns, high war-risk insurance premiums, and delays in mine clearance, which continue to hamper a full return to normal shipping flows. Despite a recent US-Iran memorandum of understanding aimed at reducing hostilities, operational conditions remain challenging for dry bulk vessels in the region.
