The dry cargo market experienced mixed developments this week, with the Capesize segment notably weakening amid limited activity, leading the BCI 5TC to decrease from USD 46,300 to USD 41,155. Meanwhile, Panamax rates exhibited volatility, with the P5TC fluctuating before settling at USD 20,055, impacted by growing vessel availability outweighing demand in the Atlantic. The Supramax sector displayed some resilience, rising to USD 20,508, despite regional disparities, while the Handysize market remained soft, declining to USD 15,579. Additionally, Indonesia's coal industry faced challenges due to government production cuts affecting exports, highlighting tension between meeting domestic energy needs and capitalizing on favorable international market conditions.
