Dry Cargo Fleet Overview - July 2026

The dry cargo fleet increased by 2 per cent in 2026, following a growth of 2.9 per cent in 2025, supported by 281 vessel deliveries. The ageing fleet poses challenges, with 15.4 per cent of units over 20 years old. Although newbuilding orders are down 41 per cent year-on-year, the current orderbook stands at 1,358 vessels, representing 11 per cent of the total fleet. The Capesize segment, despite ongoing oversupply and high newbuilding prices, registered 8 deliveries in 2026 with an additional 14 scheduled, while the Newcastlemax fleet continued to expand, showcasing resilience in the face of market fluctuations. Demolitions have remained low, with only 2 Capesizes scrapped thus far, reflecting owners' hesitation amid robust freight rates and weak scrap prices.
